Healthy Eating: Blueberries

Posted July 28, 2014 at 2:11 pm By Re Salon & Med Spa

It’s one of our favorite times of the year — blueberry season! Not only are these gorgeous little blue orbs low in calories and delicious, they’re also chock full of antioxidants, which is why they’re always on “the most healthiest foods” list.

While eating them by the handful is perfectly fine by us, we also like to use them in creative summery dishes that really compliment the sweetness of this berry. Here are a few healthy and easy ways to enjoy blueberries!

6 Ways to Make Your Makeup Last

Posted July 25, 2014 at 4:18 pm By Re Salon & Med Spa

6 Ways to Make Your Makeup Last

At Re, we believe that you get what you pay for. A professional hair colorist’s talents are worth their weight in gold over a box dye job. Makeup is the same. We don’t believe in skimping on drug store products and will gladly pay to take the very best care of our skin with the best products possible.

However, after spending money on these phenomenal products, we want to make sure they last and we know you feel the same. That’s why we’ve compiled our favorite ways to make your makeup last. Keep these six tips up your sleeve and save lots of money over time on your favorite makeup products.

1. Reinvent your cracked bronzer or blush.

Mix your broken bronzer or blush with moisturizer to create a light tinted moisturizer that goes on subtly and does double duty by keeping your skin hydrated.

2. Cut open containers.

Container shaped like this can be cut open to get the very last bit out. Cut the very end of the slim end off and you’ll have several more applications of your favorite moisturizer, foundation, or what have you.

3. Save your old nail polish.

Add a few drops of nail polish thinner to revive old gunky nail polish and use it for another season.

4. Keep eye and lip pencils in the fridge.

Heat can melt makeup pencils, but by storing it in the fridge, you prevent that from happening.

5. Keep a few empty makeup containers on hand.

When you get down to the end of your makeup, it can often break up. Scoop out the broken bits and press into a container, which you can continue to use. Scoop out lipstick and press into the pot and use a makeup brush to apply to your lips.

6. Don’t pump your mascara.

Old habits die hard, but this habit is actually detrimental to your mascara.  You think you’re getting more mascara on your brush, but in reality you’re pumping air into the mascara container and drying out your mascara much faster than it would dry out without pumping.

Keep Cool This Summer With These 5 Easy Tips

Posted July 15, 2014 at 1:43 pm By Re Salon & Med Spa

Keep Cool Beauty Tips The temperature are soaring this summer and it’s become harder and harder to keep our cool. It’s tough to look calm cool and collected when your makeup is running down your face and your hair is limp and sweaty. Trust us, we feel your pain.

That’s why we’ve put together five easy beauty tips to help you keep cool this summer…cool, and beautiful, that is!

1. Cut your hair shorter or wear it up.

Our girl crush Jennifer Lawrence has made short dos trendier than ever and there are lots of gorgeous cropped styles for ladies with any face shape. Don’t let anyone ever tell you that you can’t wear short hair. You can! Here are our favorites to get your creative juices flowing.

If you’re not quite ready to take the plunge and cut your hair, now is the perfect time to learn an easy up-do that you can wear the rest of the summer. Be mindful of your work’s culture and select a style that is appropriately professional. Our favorite place for hair tutorials is The Beauty Department. Check out their Up Dos Pinterest board for some fantastic ideas.

2. Keep makeup minimal.

Heavy makeup can feel like another layer on your face (it basically is) and once you sweat enough, too much makeup can actually start to melt off your face. Sounds attractive, right? We recommend glo minerals Sheer Tint Base for a sheer healthy glow that delicately covers imperfections in the skin.

3. Store beauty products in the fridge. We can’t think of an easier way to cool down than by putting storing your beauty essentials in the fridge. This works well for body lotion, sunscreen, and face moisturizer. But not so fast with your foundation! The cold temperature can actually mess with the chemical makeup of your foundation and nobody wants that.

4. Hydrate. The more you sweat, the more water you need. Don’t leave home without a big jug of water, preferably with ice to keep it chilled longer. If you think water is bland, add some fresh berries, sliced cucumber, or citrus wedge for a natural flavor enhancer.

5. Stay stylish in layers. A lot of work dress codes poo poo bare arms. But you can stay stylish and cool by dressing in layers that can be removed when you’re safe in the privacy of your office or when you run out for lunch. Lightweight jackets and summer-weight cardigans can be thrown over sleeveless tops.

Brand Highlight: glo minerals

Posted July 11, 2014 at 3:19 pm By Re Salon & Med Spa

glo minerals at Re

When Re Salon and Med Spa first opened, we set out to select products that reflected our beliefs about beauty products, including skincare, makeup, and haircare. We did our research and came up with a list of products that we can stand behind, not just for their quality, but also for the purity of their ingredients. This was especially true of our makeup product line selection.

A lot of makeup looks great when it goes on, but ultimately is hurting your skin every single day you use it. Other makeup lines are good for your skin, but they don’t make your skin looks flawless, the consistency feels strange, and the makeup doesn’t last.

Glo minerals is the best of both worlds — quality makeup that goes on flawlessly AND is good for your skin.

Glo minerals advanced formulations are comprised of pharmaceutical-grade ingredients, natural high-pigment minerals, nourishing vitamins and powerful antioxidants to deliver radiant beauty and healthy, glowing skin. Rich and extensive color palettes offer shades for every skin tone and formulas for every skin type. The anti-inflammatory ingredients in glo minerals are recommended for use after a chemical or laser procedure to help correct and protect the skin. glo minerals provides:

  • Advanced antioxidant blend of Vitamins A, C, E and Green Tea Extract.
  • Broad-spectrum UV protection.
  • Triple-milled minerals for a smooth, flawless finish and lasting coverage.

Glo mineral products are talc-free, non-comedogenic and free of perfumes and chemical dyes, making them suitable for even the most sensitive skin types, including those with acne and rosacea.

Now at Re, for a limited time, get 10% off all glo minerals products. Call 704-334-8087 to schedule an appointment with one of our talented makeup artists to get customized recommendations of the glo mineral products you should be using based on your skin type and coloring.
