25 Protein Packed Snacks Looking good starts from the inside out so we’re always looking for ways to eat healthier. Protein is an important part of this. You skin, your nails, your hair, all of these important parts of our overall look depend on protein to thrive, repair, and recreate themselves. When we eat good, we feel good, and we look much better. But if we don’t pack a healthy protein-filled snack, we find ourselves hangry or snacking on unhealthy things (which often begins a downward spiral…you know what we’re talking about). You know the old saying, failing to plan is planning to fail.  So check out these yummy protein packed snacks that will keep you satisfied an on the right track for healthy eating. 1. Greek yogurt ranch dip and veggies - mix your favorite ranch dressing mix with plain Greek yogurt 2. Tuna salad on wheat crackers – make your tuna salad with just a dollop of light mayo and Greek yogurt 3. Protein hot chocolate – we like this recipe 4. Mini protein smoothie - make your favorite protein packed breakfast smoothie but drink half and save the other half for another snack 5. Cottage cheese with fruit or whole wheat crackers - take your choice of either sweet or savory 6. Turkey jerky and low fat cheese stick 7. Half a peanut butter and banana sandwich made with whole wheat bread 8. Hummus with veggies 9. Homemade trail mix – use your favorite nuts and seeds mixed with raisins or dried cranberries 10. 2 Hard boiled eggs with a sprinkling of fresh ground pepper and sea salt 11. Ham and cheese rollups – choose your favorite low fat ham deli meat, paired with your favorite slice cheese 12. Tomato mozzarella salad – a small caprese salad complete with basil, and a drizzle of olive oil and balsamic vinegar is elegant and filling 13. Protein-packed banana pudding – trust us, use this recipe 14. Ants on a log – celery, peanut butter, and raisins 15. Non fat Greek yogurt and berries - we like to microwave the berries for a healthier version of berry pie a la mode 16. Half a cup of edamame (shell removed) with a sprinkling of sea salt 17. Protein snack balls – we like this recipe 18. Cheese and veggie kabobs – choose yummy raw veggies and no cooking is required 19. Silver dollar protein pancakes – we like this 3 ingredient recipe 20. Turkey and avocado rollups – choose your favorite low fat turkey deli meat, slice avocado and roll up two pieces in a piece of turkey 21. Chicken salad lettuce wraps - use just a dab of low fat mayo mixed with Greek yogurt for a super light version 22. Mini chicken taco - fill a small corn tortilla with a few pieces of grilled chicken, low fat cheese, salsa, and a dollop of Greek yogurt 23. Roasted chickpeas – we like this recipe 24. Breakfast cookies – they’re not just for breakfast; we like this recipe 25. 8 Anti-Aging Foods You Should Be Eating

When it comes to having an anti-aging lifestyle, the first line of defense is what you put in your body. It actually is just as important as what you put on your body. To get you started on the right foot, here are 10 anti-aging foods you should eat regularly and a recipe that allows you to enjoy these foods in the most delicious way possible.

1. Lean Protein

Protein is an important part of building and maintaining muscle mass, which becomes especially important as you age and muscles start to deteriorate. Protein also helps you stay fuller longer, which is a great tool in preventing weight gain.

2. Omega-3 Rich Fish

Why take fish oil pills when fatty fish is so yummy? When we say “fatty” we mean the good fats. Fish is actually low in saturated fat (the bad fat). Fish like salmon and tuna protect against heart disease, reduce inflammation, decrease the risk of arrhythmia and lower blood pressure

3. Oatmeal

Oatmeal is low glycemic, which means it’s filling (fights weigh gain) and doesn’t spike blood sugar (keep you full longer). Oats also soothe skin and prevents damage to skin cells, which is why you often hear about calming oatmeal baths. It turns out that oatmeal is just as good for your skin when you eat it as when you apply it to your skin directly.

4. Nuts

Omega-3′s, vitamins, and minerals? What’s not to love? Be careful of portion sizes for best results.

5. Berries

Berries are chock full of antioxidants like flavonols and anthocyanins, which promote cell health (i.e. healthy youthful skin). Plus berries are great for taming a sweet tooth with very little calories.

6. Avocado 

Don’t be afraid of the fat in avocado! It’s monounsaturated fat, which helps your skin stay hydrated. Supple, moisturized skin is youthful skin, so grab a chip and dive into that guacamole! 

7. Red Wine

Red wine is full of antioxidants, most importantly resveratrol, which may prevent blood clots, reduce the risk of cancer, decrease inflammation and lower bad cholesterol, according to recent studies. Limit yourself to one glass a day to optimize the results.

8. Dark Chocolate

We bet you know that dark chocolate is full of antioxidants, but do you actually know what that means? The flavanols in cocoa beans helps reduce inflammation of the skin caused by exposure to UV.  This means, that overexposure to the sun can be minimized by eating dark chocolate. So wear your sunscreen, but enjoy some great dark chocolate for dessert as well.

10 Ways to Relax {Back to School Edition}

If you’re a stay-at-home or work-from-home mom, then we bet you’re starting to breathe a little easier now that back-to-school time is here. Summer is all about the kids and getting your kids ready for the first day of school is an extra dose of stress. You’ve worked hard to get them prepared for that first day and we think you should reward yourself with a little R&R. Here are 10 ways to relax now that the kids are back to school.

1. Make a lunch date.

Get together with your favorite girlfriends and enjoy each other’s company. The only rule is no talking about the kids!

2. Sit in the back yard with your favorite adult beverage in the middle of the day, just because you can.

Whether it’s a crisp glass of white wine or your favorite fall beer, one little adult beverage in the middle of the day never hurt anyone.

3. Take a mid-afternoon nap.

Even if you have to get up a bit early to get things done, there’s something so refreshing about taking a nap in the middle of the day.

4. Work or read from a cool coffee shop.

While the kids are at school, you’re no longer tied to them or the house. Pick your favorite spot or a hip new place across town and enjoy a latte while you work or do some reading for pleasure.

5. Enjoy a treat you would typically have to share with your kids. Cupcake, anyone?

Sure, we teach them that they should share, but what they don’t know won’t hurt them, right?

6. Go see a non-G-rated movie in the middle of the day.

The movie of your choice and you don’t have to share your popcorn? Sounds like a win-win to us!

7. Take a short class to learn something, while you’re kids are learning.

Learning keeps you young! Is there a skill that you always wished you had? Now’s the time to sign up! Whether it’s an intensive French language program or a one-time photography class, you’ll never regret spending this time on yourself.

8. Exercise on your own time.

If you’re committed to exercise, you are probably used to scheduling it around the kids. But remember when you just threw on running shoes at any ol’ time just because you wanted to go for a run (or insert exercise of choice here)?  Take advantage of the opportunity, if you can, while the kids are away.

9. Take a long hot relaxing bubble bath with no fear of the kids charging in. 

Bubble baths are only relaxing if you can take one uninterrupted, which every mom knows it’s virtually impossible while the kids are home. So light some candles, put on some soothing music, and indulge yourself in an hour of “me” time.
