Why You Should Drink More Water

We all know we need to drink more water.  But why? It’s probably one of those things you’ve been told you need to do all your life, but you’ve never actually understand how hydration affects your overall health and appearance. Water is vital for you health and although it won’t make you look like a supermodel, staying well-hydrated is an important part of looking and feeling like the best version of yourself.

So go get a big glass of water (we’ll wait) and then come back to learn why you should drink more water.

Drink water for your skin…
1. Your skin is made up of living cells and all living cells are made up of water. Hence your skin needs water.

2. Inadequate water can make your skin dry

3. Water reaches all organs first before reaching the skin, so drink to make sure enough water is reach all organs, including your skin.

Drink water for your body…
1. Your body is made up of 60% water. If water becomes imbalanced, your body will not function properly.

2. Water is filling and can help you consume less calories if you need to lose weight.

3. Hunger and thirst are often confused in the human body, so it’s important to drink plenty of water so you don’t eat when your body doesn’t need additional calories.

4. Muscle fatigue can occur if your aren’t drinking enough water.
Drink water for your hair…
1. Drinking water keeps hair hydrated (i.e. not dry and brittle).

2. Water helps flush toxins from the body and helps eliminates dandruff and Dermatitis Seborrhea.

3. Staying hydrated helps your body absorb vitamins and nutrients, both of which contribute to healthy (and fast growing) hair.

A good rule of thumb is to divide your weight (in pounds) by two.  That’s how many ounces of water you should be drinking every day! If you’re an athlete or sweat a lot during daily activities, you will need to drink even more to stay adequately hydrated.

Pastel Makeup for Spring

There’s nothing groundbreaking about wearing pastels in spring, but spring 2014 is a great time to wear pastel makeup! This trend is super popular right now and can work on any skin tone for any age. Here’s how to wear this trend so you look fresh and current, without looking like an Easter egg.

1. Play it safe.
We’re all about trying new colors like light blue and spring green, but if you’re wary of color or if you want to wear this look to the office, play it safe with pastel pinks and lavenders.  Choose a lip color that isn’t too shocking against your natural lip color. We suggest a shade or two lighter.

2. Keep it simple.
A thick black line would make any of the looks above more dramatic, so if you want to keep your look subtle, skip the eyeliner or keep the liner thin.  You could also use a softer color like medium brown or gray.

3. When it comes to eyes, go matte.
While shimmery pastels might look fantastic for a night time look, matte pastels tend to look a little more appropriate for daytime looks. Shimmer eyeshadows may also look a little sophomoric, so stick to matte if you are worried about being age-appropriate.

4. Pair with a bronzed complexion.
We think the pastel makeup look looks best when skin has that beautiful sun-kissed look.  But don’t forgo the spf! Use a bronzer to highlight your cheekbones and the bridge of your nose. Think about all the places the sun would naturally darken first if it was a “real” tan.

Get Your Legs Ready For Shorts Weather

1. Exfoliate
To get your skin ready to show off in shorts, you want them to be silky smooth.  But you’re not ready for moisturizer just yet.  To really get the job done, you need to get rid of that dry patchy winter skin.  And the best way to do that is by exfoliating.  Before getting into the shower, exfoliate with a loofah or exfoliating glove.  Additionally, you can also use an exfoliating cleanser like Dermalogica Exfoliating Body Scrub.

2. Moisturize
You might think moisturizing starts when you get out of the bath or shower, but you should start to moisturize while you wash.  Choose a creamy moisturizing body cleanser like Kieh’s Creme de Corps Nurturing Body Washing Cream. Then as soon as your out of the shower, gently pat your skin with your towel to remove water while leaving skin dewey with moisture.  Now, it’s time to moisturize.  Two great products that seal in moisture and will give your luxuriously silky skin are Sonya Dakar’s Omega Hydrator and Nourishing Body Oil.

3. Safely Tan
When we say “tan”, we don’t mean tanning in the sun or in the tanning bed.  What we mean is spray tans and/or tanning creams and moisturizers.  Tanning in the sun or the tanning bed is not safe.  End of story. There are so many wonderful products out there, as well as professional tanning salons that give you a 100% safe warm glow.  Why would you continue to wreck your skin?

Now that we have that clarified, safe tanning can make legs look more toned and reduces the appearance of cellulite. It’s the fastest way to make your legs look great!

4. Get rid of unwanted hair
In our opinion, laser hair removal or waxing is the way to go, but regardless of the method you choose, you’re not ready for shorts or skirts sans hosiery if you don’t have silky smooth hairless legs!

5. Reduce the look of cellulite
As mentioned above, safe tanning is one step toward reducing cellulite.  In addition, there are also creams that help reduce cellulite.  However, the most affective, non-invasive way to reduce cellulite is iLipo.
